The Republic of Korea is a small country on the far eastern edge of Asia. Although it ranks 109th in the world in terms of land area, the country is a center of economic activity, culture, and arts. Korea was colonized by Japan in the early 20th century and later had to endure the Korean War (1950-53), but it has achieved amazing economic growth in a short period, dubbed “the Miracle on the Han River.”

Over last half century, Christianity in South Korea has witnessed tremendous growth.

However, the rapid growth of Christianity has also resulted many false teachings and rise of various kinds of cults. Therefore, there is great opportunity for church planting missionaries to plant theologically sound churches and Bible institutes to train national workers.

A little about us

Sharing the gospel with Paju, South Korea

Born in Korea, Brandon grew up in an unsaved home.  He was first introduced to Christ at the age of 16 when an American missionary shared the Gospel with him.  Rose had the privilege of being raised in a missionaries’ home, which the Lord used to develop in her a tender heart towards the Lord and His Great Commission.  Brandon and Rose studied at Pensacola Christian College and were married in May of 2000.

In 2005, Brandon, Rose and 2 year old Lauren were led to assist Rose’s parents in Korea.  While in Korea, they were burdened to start a Christian kindergarten.  In addition to superintending the school, Brandon also served with a local church as an assistant pastor and youth director.  Meanwhile, Rose taught in a nearby Christian school.

They welcomed two more children into their family during this time, Lyndsy and Lucia.  However, the Lord saw fit to take Lucia home to Heaven when she was just one day old during a very high risk open heart surgery.   It was after this trial that God began to burden the Songs to share the hope of the Gospel by planting churches in Korea and specifically, in the city of Paju, near the Demilitarized Zone, which is the border that separating North and South Korea.

Three years after Lucia’s homegoing, the Lord blessed Brandon and Rose with baby Lilyanne, who is now a very adventuresome toddler!.  Their other daughters Lauren and Lyndsy have both accepted Christ as their Savior and serve Him with their musical abilities on the piano and violin.  In addition to being a “full-time” big sister, Lauren enjoys reading.  Lyndsy’s favorite hobby is creating new recipes in the kitchen with her mom.

Our home church

Since its founding in 1965, Friendship Baptist Church strives to encourage all people to pursue a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ through strong Bible preaching and teaching, Christ-honoring music, and a world-wide soul winning outreach.

robert_d_vradenburgh      Pastor Vradenburgh came to Friendship after 18 years as a missionary in the Caribbean. He has a heart for missions and for missionaries. After serving as Associate Pastor for one year, he became the Senior Pastor in January, 2001.
Pastor Vradenburgh married Rachel Ulmer in 2005 following the passing of his first wife Chlo. Their blended family consists of five grown children and seven grandchildren.
Raised in a Christian home, Pastor Vradenburgh came to know Christ at a tender age. He surrendered to full-time ministry while a teenager at a Christian camp. Later, under the ministry of the late Dr. Lee Roberson at Tennessee Temple University in the late 1970s, he surrendered to preach the Gospel. A graduate of Tennessee Temple University, Pastor Vradenburgh has a passion for the expository preaching of the Scriptures to insure that “all the counsel of God” is preached.
Pastor Vradenburgh led the church into erecting a new sanctuary seating just under 1000 in early 2004. His vision is to use this facility as a tool to evangelize North Raleigh and beyond.
